These spicy, crispy onion bhajis are delicious on their own or with a minty yogurt sauce.


  • Red onion icon
    Red onion4peeled, coarsely chopped
  • Salt icon
    Salt1 ½ teaspoons
  • Garlic clove icon
    Garlic clove2peeled, grated
  • Fresh chili icon
    Fresh chili2finely chopped
  • Ginger icon
    Ginger15 ggrated
  • Cumin seeds icon
    Cumin seeds1 teaspoon
  • Ground turmeric icon
    Ground turmeric¼ teaspoon
  • Ground coriander icon
    Ground coriander1 teaspoon
  • Gram flour icon
    Gram flour90 g
  • Rice flour icon
    Rice flour20 g
  • Cornstarch icon
    Cornstarch1 teaspoon
  • Water icon
    Water20 groom temperature
  • Sunflower oil icon
    Sunflower oilas needed

  • 1. Add red onion to a clean large mixing bowl
  • 2. Sprinkle with salt evenly
  • 3. Set aside - approx 5 min
  • 4. Add garlic clove, fresh chili, ginger, cumin seeds, ground turmeric and ground coriander to the large mixing bowl
  • 5. Mix briefly
  • 6. Add gram flour, rice flour and cornstarch to the large mixing bowl
  • 7. Mix briefly
  • 8. Add water to the large mixing bowl
  • 9. Set aside - approx 5 min
  • 10. Mix thoroughly
  • 11. Add sunflower oil to the saucepan and heat over medium heat
  • 12. Fry until crispy then set aside
  • 13. Serve
